THISTLE - Oxygen EP (Tiberius Records)
Thistle is perhaps the midwest's best kept songwriting secret. This Cincinnati
band provides a refreshing breath of fresh air to those of you who are constantly
suffocated by inept songwriting and want something more to your musical enjoyment.
Make no mistake though. They also bombard you with heavy guitars and a slower
tempo sound that seems to weigh on your senses like a two-ton truck. The addition
of an organ and xylophone only strengthens and polishes their musical talent
and expands a sound that is already wide open. Song titles on the EP include
"Iron Clad", "Part II", "Consonants That Kill",
and "Oxygen". I didn't have a favorite song as all of them tickled
my fancy. Think of the songwriting of Rob Huddleston (Ann Beretta) combined
with the overbearing sound mixture of Dinosaur Jr and Time Spent Driving and
you have a band called Thistle. For more info check out their site at www.thistlewired.com.
